Tavolara, the smallest kingdom in the world
Tavolara is a mountainous island rising steeply from the sea with a height of about 560 meters above sea level that can be reached by taking the boat departing every half hour from the port of Porto San Paolo (12KM SOUTH OF OLBIA). The island is the ideal destination for a short day trip.

On the island, next to the docking pier, you will find the beach of Lo Spalmatore di Terra, the very small inhabited center that also hosts two restaurants and the few houses of the residents. Walking along a short path of about 20 minutes, you can also visit the other coves of the island, the famous "Due Mari" passage of Tavolara also known as "two seas" and Cala Tramontana, a wild beach framed by the greenery of the Mediterranean scrub. For the most adventurous, the peak of Tavolara, Punta Cannone, can be visited with a trek lasting two and a half hours, which also includes a little climbing. The effort will be rewarded by the breathtaking panorama visible from the highest point of the island. Legend has it that Tavolara is the smallest kingdom in the world. Its history is linked to King Charles Albert of Savoy, who arrived on the island in search of the mythical goats with golden teeth. Upon arrival, he met its only inhabitant, Giuseppe Bertoleoni, who was declared the King of the island. His descendants are now the only residents and guardians of this magical place. The king and his ancestors are now buried in the small cemetery of the island, which is worth a visit for the peculiarity of the graves well camouflaged with the surrounding environment. And the goats with golden teeth? ...actually, the legend is probably linked to the fact that the wild goats on the island have yellow teeth due to the herbs they eat (helichrysum). Once back from the island of Tavolara, you can sleep with your Vantastik Rental Campervan in the equipped parking area of Porto San Paolo or in the splendid campsite of Porto Taverna, to continue your on-the-road adventure!
